Who is A&B Black Oxide?

Since 1988, A&B Black Oxide has been black oxide coating customers' products with virtually no dimensional changes to the metal.

We can process black oxide on steel, stainless steel, brass, bronze, copper and die cast zinc. We meet all military and automotive specifications, as well as ASM and SAE/AMS standards.

Our history of providing a quality finish, at a reasonable rate, with minimum turnaround time has provided us the means to expand our services and the territory we serve.

We are minutes away from major freeways.

Our shipping docks can accommodate any size truck.

What Makes A&B Black Oxide Unique?

It is a conversion coating formed by a chemical reaction with iron in the metal to form an integral protective surface.

Advantages of a black oxide finish:

  • Corrosion protection
  • Dimensional stability
  • Improved lubricity
  • Anti-galling
  • Decorative finish
  • Reduced light glare
  • Pre-treatment for paint
  • Conductivity
  • No embrittlement
  • No welding fumes
  • Cost competitive

Depending on the post treatment applied, black oxide coating can give parts corrosion resistance equivalent to 400 hours of salt spray exposure. Other applications are designed to provide extended shelf life for stored parts prior to their use, or to prepare them for future surface treatment.

Applicable “hot” black oxide specifications:

  • Mil C-13924 – Classes 1,2 and 4
  • Mil F-495
  • Ford Motor ESF-M6P-3
  • General Motors GM – 4347-M
  • Chrysler Corporation PS-1129
  • USDA MPI-2

A&B Black Oxide also meets standards established by ASM, SAE/AMS and AGA.
